About the Author

The Reverend Dr. Thelma Gilbert was ordained into the gospel ministry of Jesus Christ in 1986. She is
recognized as a competent, qualified, and well-trained teacher, leader, pastor, and servant. Well
prepared, disciplined, cheerful, and confident, Thelma serves as an advocate for people of all ages who
are oppressed, suffering, and heartbroken from the many ills of our society. Dr. Gilbert’s God-given
gifts, talents, and services as an acclaimed teacher, seminar speaker, and preacher are sought across
the United States.

She received her bachelor of theology degree from Springfield Christian Bible Seminary Association in
Springfield, Massachusetts, and a bachelor of science degree in human services from New Hampshire
College in Manchester, New Hampshire. She earned a master of arts degree in lay ministries from
Hartford Seminary in Hartford, Connecticut, and a doctor of divinity degree from Springfield Christian
Bible Seminary Association in Springfield, Massachusetts. Dr. Gilbert successfully completed the Spring
and Fall Pastoral Counseling Training Program at The Saint Francis Academy for Clinical Pastoral
Training Program, and a one-year internship in Pastoral Clinical Counseling at The West Hartford
Pastoral Counseling Center in West Hartford, Connecticut.

Thelma
is a former community support specialist for the Village in Hartford, Connecticut. She is also a
former employee of the University of Connecticut School of Social Work, where she held the position of
organizational skills and development consultant and project manager.

Dr. Gilbert is the chief executive officer and founder of Pastoral Resource Ministries Inc. (PRM) and
Pastor of The Living Word Worship Center (TLWWC), both of Bloomfield, Connecticut.
She is a member
of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Greater Hartford


Dr. Gilbert is a pioneer and mentor for women in ministry. In 1987, at the fifty-seventh annual Session of
the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Greater Hartford, Connecticut, she was voted the
organization’s first female president. In 1996, at the ninety-second annual Session of the Connecticut
State Missionary Baptist Convention, she became the first female pastor voted into full membership of
that organization. She was the recipient of the Humanitarian Award from the Greater Hartford Club of the
National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club Inc. In 1997, the Significant
Ministry Award from Hartford Seminary in 2000, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Sons of
Thunder Coalition in 2003, and the Martin Luther King Drum Major Award from the Interdenominational
Ministerial Alliance of Greater Hartford in 2011.

Thelma resides in Bloomfield, Connecticut. She is the mother of two children and the grandmother of
seven grandchildren.

One of her favorite Scriptures is Proverbs 3:5–6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on
your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”
